COTE

Sorti au Japon uniquement, ce jeu, non content d’être foncièrement mauvais est en plus assez rare ! Du coup, ne pensez pas mettre la main dessus non sans débourser au moins une bonne centaine d’Euros (peut-être même un peu plus si d’aventure vous trouviez une copie neuve...) ! Et oui, la collection a ses raisons que la raison ignore !

BON A SAVOIR

Legend Of Success Joe n’est jamais sorti en dehors du Japon.
Le jeu est également sorti sur Super Famicom.
Legend Of Success Joe est l’adaptation en jeu vidéo, d’un manga paru dans les 70’s sous le nom d’ Ashita No Joe (Le Joe de demain), créé par Tetsuya CHIBA et Asao TAKAMORI. Comme souvent, il fut adapté en anime par Osamu DESAKI (Rémi Sans Famille) et Mizubo NISHIKUBO. Deux séries en tout : une de 79 épisodes jamais diffusés en France et une de 47 épisodes dont seulement 26 ont pu être doublés en français.

SYNOPSIS

Joe Yabuki est un jeune orphelin bagarreur, dont les talents au combat ne tardent pas à attirer l’œil d’un ancien boxeur alcoolique qui décide de l’entraîner pour en faire un champion. C’est classique, comme Rocky, pour un jeu de boxe, il n’en fallait pas plus !

PRESENTATION

L’intro est mignonne, sans originalité certes, mais vu sa fidélité aux dessins de l’anime, on ne lui en tiendra pas rigueur. Dommage que l’écran titre ne puisse pas en dire autant !!!

GRAPHISMES

Malgré les immenses possibilités offertes par la Neo Geo, le studio WAVE a décidé que Legend Of Success Joe serait un hommage rendu à la fois à Wharol pour le choix des couleurs, autant qu’une boîte de Crayola à prix mini, c'est-à-dire 7, mais très criardes, et à Formica©. Car en plus d’avoir autant de charisme qu’un guéridon fait en la matière, Joe et ses petits camarades (vilains, gentils, public...) en ont la beauté !!! Les décors, véritables cris d’amour au minimalisme sont sur un seul plan et encore certainement par obligation. Les Boys de WAVE eussent-ils pu s’en passer qu’ils auraient vraisemblablement laissés un fond noir !!! Ami lecteur, un petit coup d’œil sur les screenshots devrait suffire !

ANIMATION

A-t-on déjà vu des graphismes moches bien animés ? Et puis deux animations pour les jambes en alterné sont bien suffisantes pour donner une impression de déplacement, non ?

JOUABILITE

A priori, en utilisant uniquement deux boutons : A et B, A pour les coups normaux, B pour la garde, et A & B pour les coups forts, logiquement plus lents, le tout associé au mouvement du stick pour varier les coups, la position de sa garde et esquiver, il ne devait pas y avoir possibilité de mal faire sur le papier ! Et bien si, car, même en respectant la manipulation, les coups sortent au hasard et comme WAVE nous gratifie d’un test collision du même acabit, il n’est pas rare que votre crochet qui devait être un uppercut cache le visage de l’adversaire à l’écran, sans que celui-ci ne soit touché !!! Incroyable, du jamais vu !!!

DUREE DE VIE

Ami lecteur, tu t’imagines bien qu’avec une jouabilité d’un tel niveau, progresser dans le jeu est aussi réjouissant que de voir Magalie de la Star Ac’ entrain de faire l’ouverture du rayon fromage de tête du Super U de la zone Pompelle. Et puis quel intérêt de se faire du mal en tentant vainement d‘avancer dans le jeu sauf si tu t’entraînes à sourire en simulant une fracture du tibia devant la glace de ta salle de bain !

SON

Un cauchemar ! En mono, composée sur un synthétiseur bas de gamme bien nasillard. Même la NES ou la Master System ne nous ont jamais gratifié d’une telle ignominie auditive !!!

ACCESSIBILITE

Est-ce bien raisonnable ?

+ Une intro très "manga"... + La boîte qui permettra de remplacer celle de Mark Of The Wolves un peu rayée (ah bah non... même pas !)	- Moche ! - Musique sordide ! - Jouabilité ignoble... - ...et en plus difficile !

VERDICT

1La punition aura été salée, certes méritée au vu du retard pris sur les autres tests et dossiers, mais salée tout de même,... Néanmoins, Legend Of Success Joe méritait sa place sur Legendary Games. Car il s’agit d’une daube de légende, pour ne pas dire de La daube de légende. Véritable bras d’honneur, combo majeur tendu fait au jeu vidéo, ce titre encore méconnu reviendra très certainement sur le tapis lors des soirées mondaines autour d’une coupe de champagne et d’un canapé au caviar. Non pas pour évoquer d’éventuelles qualités, mais plutôt en tant que contre-exemple. Tout dans ce titre de WAVE surprend par sa misère ! Produire un tel néant vidéoludique pour un prix dépassant l’Euro symbolique est scandaleux : graphismes moches, animation d’un autre temps, maniabilité pathétique, musiques infâmes, le tout d’une rare difficulté. Pas la moindre étincelle ne vient un peu emballer les choses, nous faire oublier un instant que l’on est devant sa télé, une manette à la main, à se casser la tête sur un jeu rigide et mal fagoté. Comment Tetsuya CHIBA et Asao TAKAMORI ont-ils pu accepter de laisser WAVE massacrer ainsi leur manga !
Est-il besoin de conclure en précisant que ce jeu est à éviter ? Pour les derniers sceptiques un coup d’œil aux screenshots devrait suffire.

Fin de l’été 91, la Rolls Royce des consoles voit arriver ce qui sera sans aucun doute un de ses jeux les plus mauvais : j’ai nommé Ashita No Joe Densetsu, plus communément appelé Legend Of Success Joe ! C’est sûr, la rentrée 91 aura été plus difficile que les années précédentes ^_^ !
Et pour une raison que l’on ignore, fort heureusement chez WAVE (merci WAVE !) ils ont décider de ne pas sortir de suite (non vraiment MERCI WAVE !!!) mais plutôt d’aller polluer un autre support vidéoludique, cette bien malheureuse Super Famicom... cette dernière, fort heureusement, ne gardera aucune séquelle !
On aurait pu, à la limite, fermer les yeux sur cette réalisation médiocre et tout simplement indigne de la Neo Geo si le jeu avait été fun... mais même pas ! L’intérêt, la réalisation tout... tout dans ce soft sent mauvais du derche. Et ça tombe bien, au moins dans la benne à ordures, cette daube ne pourra plus se faire remarquer : c’est déjà de pris !
